"People want me to do things, be a certain way and that's not going to happen. I'm going to be Albert Belle."-Albert Belle Welcome to Ultimate Albert Belle, the first (and only) website dedicated to former baseball star Albert Belle. What's Albert Belle been up to these days? Apparently he has been golfing. According to this article in the The Plain Dealer, Albert was trying to qualify for the U.S. Open, but came up short as he shot an 84 at the Royals Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, AZ on Monday. The cutoff was 68. March 26, 2008 Long time, no news! Well the only thing I have for you today is a new fan experience that was sent in by Ron. Go check it out on the Fan Experiences page! If you see any news about Albert Belle that I miss, feel free to send it in. August 25, 2007 Happy birthday to Albert Belle today! =) May 10, 2007 So it has been about 8 years now since I started this site. I've had about 3 different layouts for the site over the years and they have all been Orioles themed, mostly because I began the site when Albert was an Oriole. Well, I wanted to change it up a bit this time and came up with the idea of having the user choose their layout. So now you'll notice there is an option to change the 'theme' you view the site in. I hope you enjoy it! I think it will only work if you have cookies enabled, because the site has to save a cookie for what theme you pick... the default is the Indians theme. Let me know what you think... sign the guestbook. Thanks for sticking with the site over the years :) March 16, 2007 Here are some recent articles about Albert's recent hip procedure.
March 14, 2007 This is kind of short notice, but apparently Albert Belle will be making a rare appearance today in Chicago to talk about his hip resurfacing procedure that was done at the Neurologic and Orthopedic Institute. Here is the press release I read (they mess up his age though, it should say 40): Rare Opportunity to Talk With Former Baseball Great Albert Belle About 'Hip Resurfacing' Wednesday March 14, 10:52 am ET CHICAGO, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Who: Former Chicago White Sox outfielder Albert Belle, retired since 2000, will make a rare appearance in front of the media today following his hip resurfacing procedure at the Neurologic and Orthopedic Institute in Chicago. Belle, age 31, has experienced debilitating osteoarthritis in his hip, which impacted his pro baseball career and has prevented him from enjoying recreational activities. What: Dr. Mitchell Sheinkop of the Neurologic and Orthopedic Institute in Chicago, yesterday performed the new 'hip resurfacing' procedure on Mr. Belle as an alternative to hip replacement. He and Albert Belle will meet with the media to discuss the procedure, what it is and why it worked for Mr. Belle. When: Wednesday, March 14, 1:15 p.m. Where: 3rd Floor Conference Room, Neurologic and Orthopedic Institute, 4550 N. Winchester Avenue, Chicago, 773-250-0500 Background: Hip resurfacing, which involves reshaping the head of the femur (bone in the upper leg) and capping it with a smooth metal ball, rather than sacrificing the bone, has a quicker recovery time than total hip replacement where the worn bone is cut away, a metal stem is placed inside the femur and the hip socket is replaced. Mitchell Sheinkop, M.D., Director of Joint Replacement at the Neurologic and Orthopedic Institute of Chicago (Institute) has been using the procedure longer than most physicians in the country. He is presently the only physician using an intra-operative navigating technique in combination with the hip resurfacing procedures, which allows a surgeon better accuracy in placing the prosthesis in conjunction with a minimally invasive incision. Baby boomers with hip pain who want to stay active in their later decades now have an alternative to hip replacement surgery without its inherent limitations. Hip resurfacing is offered to middle age people who have osteoarthritis in the hip and want to return to activities, such as biking, golf, hiking, skiing, swimming, fishing and tennis, which have been curtailed because of the pain.
