Albert Belle made a surprise visit to Indians Spring Training today. His former teammates from the 1995 team had recently mentioned that they wanted to bring him there to help with instruction and share tips with the team. Jordan Bastian, Indians reporter for MLB.com, posted two pictures of Albert on his Twitter page: Pic 1, Pic 2. More coverage to come I'm sure!

Here are some articles about Albert's visit to Indians Spring Training today where he was reunited with his former teammates Sandy Alomar Jr., Kenny Lofton, and Carlos Baerga, and former manager Mike Hargrove. Among his quotes:

"When I got hurt in 2000 and couldn't play in 2001, I was devastated. . .I didn't watch. I didn't watch any highlights of baseball until Game 7 when the D-Backs won the World Series. I keep up with it now and watch a few games."

"I don't know how guys do it, have a family and try to play baseball, man. It's tough. . .Facing (David) Cone and (Roger) Clemens was easy compared to being a dad. It seems like all the kids get tired and cranky at the same time."

It's really great to see Albert resurface and to see how he is doing. Looking at the hits to my website, many curious people google "where is Albert Belle?" :-)

Albert Belle is continuing his recently rekindled relationship with the Cleveland Indians. Today he took part in the Cleveland Indians Charity Celebrity Golf Classic today at Quail Hollow Country Club. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the tournament was his first time back in the Cleveland area since golfing with some friends a few years ago. Of note, Belle said that he would consider becoming more involved with the Indians organization at some point. He's been working with Bob DiBiasio, the Indians' senior vice president of public affairs, on an Albert Belle bobblehead night and would travel to Cleveland with his family to celebrate. DiBiasio also mentioned that Indians manager Manny Acta has talked about wanting to get Belle in a uniform in spring training to talk to the team's hitters.

There are also some photos from the event posted with the article.

The Plain Dealer has posted a short video clip interview with Albert from the golf tournament last Thursday. You can check that out on cleveland.com.

The next day (Friday, June 1) Albert made his first visit to Progressive Field (Jacobs Field) since 2000 and attanded the Indians vs. Twins game as a guest of the Indians. I haven't seen much press about this other than this AP article and this blurb from The Chronicle-Telegram. It's nice to see that AB and the Indians are on good terms once again! I personally started following him after his time with the Indians but he definitely had the best years of his career there.

Albert Belle bobblehead night is coming! The first 10,000 fans to attend the June 1st game vs. Tampa Bay will receive the bobblehad, which will feature Albert Belle flexing his bicep in the famous pose he struck during the 1995 playoffs against Boston when Red Sox manager Kevin Kennedy asked the umpires to check his bat for cork. No word yet on if Belle will attend the game.

This article recently posted on mlb.com confirms that Albert will unfortunately not be able to attend his bobblehead night on June 1 at Progressive Field due to a schedule conflict with his daughters' dance recital. Family first! Indians senior vice president of public relations Bob DiBiasio also revealed that Albert suggested the pose for the bobblehead:

Belle's bobblehead, per his request, will feature the power-hitting maestro pointing to his bicep, as he did during the 1995 American League Division Series after Red Sox manager Kevin Kennedy questioned whether Belle had corked his bat.

"Albert had been emailing me the last couple of years saying, 'Where's my bobblehead? How come I don't have a bobblehead?'" DiBiasio said. "He was the one who said, 'It has to be the pose from the Boston Red Sox game.'"

Belle, relishing the role of stay-at-home dad, is not expected to be in attendance on his bobblehead day, June 1, because his daughters have a dance recital.

DiBiasio describes the bobblehead in this YouTube clip as well.

Sorry that I am a bit late in posting these next two links!

First, Albert Belle bobblehead day is approaching! It is a little over a week away and Clevescene.com has a preview of what the bobblehead looks like.

Second, Albert gave an interview to CSN Chicago last month where he talked about his competitiveness during his career, the corked bat incident, the media, Peter Angelos, and the end of his career. You can read quotes from that interview at CSNChicago.com.
